Crown and Bridge

Our dentists are highly skilled and experienced
Crown and bridge in Hobart

Prosthodontics: commonly known as crown and bridge treatment, makes up a significant proportion of our work. Once we have established a stable foundation, long-term dental care will frequently require prosthodontic treatment to produce an aesthetic, functional and long lasting result. We provide cast ceramic, CAD-Cam, porcelain fused to metal, and gold restorations depending on the requirements of each specific case.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns preserve, restore and enhance the functionality of a damaged tooth by capping (covering) the damaged tooth. This not only strengthens the tooth but also can alter and improve its appearance, shape and colour. Our dentists may recommend a crown to:

  • Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining for strength and function
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
  • Restore a fractured tooth
  • Attach a bridge
  • Complete the final stage of a dental implant procedure
  • Improve the appearance of  a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges, like implants and partial dentures, are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing and restore the tooth or teeth of these spaces. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or to implants surrounding the empty space.

The Treatment Process

Crown and bridge treatment involves significant treatment planning and usually a minimum of three appointments.  A typical schedule would be:

Appointment 1: Pre-Treatment Records

This is a short appointment for initial impressions, photographs, colour selections and other required tests to set up the process of completing the crown/bridge.

Appointment 2: Preparation and Final Records

This is generally a longer appointment where the tooth or teeth are shaped for the crown/bridge. Impressions are taken on which the crown/bridge will be made. Temporary crown/bridge is constructed and cemented in place. All information is now collected together and dispatched to the dental laboratory which will be responsible for constructing your crown/bridge. It will take approximately three weeks to produce the final crown/bridge.

Appointment 3: Insertion and Completion

This is usually a short appointment where the temporary crown/bridge is removed and the final crown/bridge is placed to review colour, accuracy and comfort. If all satisfactory the crown/bridge is cemented in place.
