Dental Crowns

Dental crowns preserve, restore and enhance the functionality of a damaged tooth by capping (covering) the damaged tooth. They not only strengthen the tooth but also can alter and improve its appearance, shape and colour. Our dentists may recommend a crown to:

  • Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining for strength and function
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
  • Restore a fractured tooth
  • Attach a bridge
  • Complete the final stage of a dental implant procedure
  • Improve the appearance of a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges, like implants and partial dentures, replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing and restore these teeth. We do this by cementing the bridge to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the space.

The Treatment Process

The treatment involves significant planning and usually requires a minimum of three appointments. A typical schedule would be:

Appointment 1: Pre-Treatment Records

At this appointment, we take initial impressions, photographs, colour selections, and do other required tests to set up the process.

Appointment 2: Preparation and Final Records

Usually, this is a longer appointment where we shape the tooth or teeth. We take impressions on which the crown/bridge will be made. A temporary is constructed and cemented in place. All the information is now collected and dispatched to the dental laboratory, which will be responsible for creating your crown/bridge. It will take approximately three weeks to produce the final result.

Appointment 3: Insertion and Completion

Usually a short appointment, the temporary crown/bridge is removed, and the final one is put in place to review colour, accuracy and comfort. If all is satisfactory, we cement it into place.
